Band Section Leader

No one was motivated to do well in the Tuba section which I was in. Everyone was distant in our section of 7. Hence, the lack of skills and unison when playing pieces which infuriated my conductor. Then, I was appointed Section Leader in Secondary 2 which meant that I had to lead both my seniors and juniors and improve my section’s dynamics. I took steps to ensure there was a team spirit, and most importantly, that everyone could play their pieces on the Tuba well. To strengthen the bond between the section, I organised section outings and, I requested for additional sectionals from my band teacher after school, and played each piece part by part together, ensuring no one was left behind. I prepared them for performances and CCA sessions beforehand too. Overtime, my section mates became fond of each other, enjoyed practices, even brought home their tubas, and we became one of the most competent section. Attaining a distinction for SYF was the cherry on top of the cake.
